156: When You Feel Controlled by Capitalism - Toi Marie Smith

Toi Marie is a womanist, a creator, a mother, and an impact strategist whose work focuses on challenging capitalism. And if you’re reading this and wondering why the heck this is important or applies to you—perk up your ears cutie cuties.

Capitalism is the tool that highlights why we feel so bad and guilty when we’re not being productive. It’s embedded with exploitation and extraction of people, relationships, beliefs, and ourselves. It keeps us thinking that we need to produce produce produce, do more do more do more—even if it goes against what our body tells us.

The truth is, you don’t need to live this way. You can challenge these beliefs. Is it okay to like to work? Absolutely! It’s when we feel dread about our work or shame or guilt about missing work that we need to address why that is, and what the alternative might be.

Toi sheds light on all of this and so much more, including how you can experience life, motherhood, and business differently.
